Healthy Fourth of July Recipes

There’s nothing better than celebrating Independence Day with your family and friends. Whether this is your first or fifteenth year having a cookout, the tradition is still alive for a reason! The Fourth of July is exploding with tasty favorites as well as delicious new flavors from the grill, and anyone can prepare a full, healthy dinner without missing a single second of fireworks with your family!

The first recipe I want to share is a delicious cucumber salad. This fresh, crisp salad can be an excellent side at your own dinner or the perfect dish to bring with you to a friend’s cookout! It brings together the perfect mix of summer flavors with just a little heat. Simply combine English cucumbers with onions, white vinegar, coconut sugar, and chopped dill before chilling, and your Independence Day celebration will already have one dish ready to go!

For a healthy take on a classic cookout dish, check out these BBQ carrot dogs! This is a great recipe for a delicious vegan alternative. I recommend replacing the soy sauce with a lower-sodium option like coconut aminos. Coconut aminos is 100% natural, soy-free, gluten-free, raw, and non-GMO, making it a great healthy swap for any recipe. Use it while preparing these simple yet impressive carrot dogs and serve them on a whole wheat bun for a tasty, healthy grilled entree!

If you’re cooking for a younger, picky audience, try these family-friendly sesame salmon burgers! This recipe is perfect for any occasion, but it’s a great alternative to traditional beef patties on the grill. High in protein and low in carbs, these burgers are full of superfood ingredients such as garlic, ginger, and sesame seeds. Dice the salmon and mix it with sesame oil, ume plum vinegar, garlic, ginger, scallions, sesame seeds, and eggs. Section out patties, and then cook them in coconut oil for 4-6 minutes per side before plating and serving!

I know healthy cooking is challenging enough during the main course, but I also know that no celebration is complete without a little taste of something sweet! Try topping off your meal with these grain, sugar, and dairy free coconut cake bites. This recipe includes a lot of great healthy alternatives that result in a tender, moist cupcake. Coat them with a delectable glaze made from milk, coconut flour, Stevia or honey, and a pinch of salt for a dazzling finale on your Fourth of July!
