Is Organic Fact or Fiction?

The word Organic is a current trend in the modern world. We are seeing more people make an effort to buy high quality organic foods, while others are still a bit skeptical about how to spend their money. Thanks to companies like Amazon who are able lower prices to sometimes half the cost in order to provide an opportunity for many to buy quality ingredients for less… but some are still concerned with large corporations making big moves, in regards to our food, and we as individuals have to decide what’s best for our bodies.

Although the media reports various statistics stating that organic foods aren’t very different from conventional food. Considering what organic farming entails, there has to be some significant difference.

Virginia Worthington, ms, ScD, CNS did a study where she reviewed 1230 published data, comparing organically grown and conventionally grown crops. Essentially the organic crops had higher nutrient levels and lower toxicity levels than the conventional crops.

Copenhagen University conducted a research and found that organic food shows higher levels of antioxidants called phenolic. According to researchers, phenolic is more efficient with fighting cancer causing free radicals than vitamin C and E. This is one of the reasons why choosing organic foods overall may be better at protecting us from certain cancers.

The organic approach is not just about the food, it also has a lot to do with the microorganisms that are in the soil. With conventional farming methods, microorganisms are becoming depleted from the soil which, in turn, effects the trace minerals available for the plants and grass that grows in it. During this process much of the soils nutrients are lost, like amino acids which are very important to the animals that are eating it, and if you’re one who eats meat then obviously it’s possible that you can be effected through this toxic, nutrient depleting food chain cycle.

There is much controversy on this topic but I believe that an important highlight is that organically raised foods are free from harmful chemicals which is not just better for you who consumes them but is also better for our animals and our environment.
